Military Honored for Sacrifces During the Wars at Monuments

The War Memorials at the National Mall in Washington D.C. honor the many sacrifices of military veterans who fought and died for the freedom of the USA.

Washington D.C. has the attention of the world as the nation prepares for the historic inauguration of Barack Obama as the 44th President of the United States. War Memorials are remembrances of the many men and women who fought and died to protect the freedom of the citizens of The United States of America.

Visitors to Washington D.C. can visit some of the great monuments in the world, including the War Memorials. The National Park Service has provided information about some of their most prominent icons in Washington, including the War Memorials on the National Mall. Prominent War Memorials in Washington D.C. include The World War II Memorial, The Korean War Veterans Memorial and The Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

The World War II Memorial

The World War II Memorial commemorate the sacrifices and victory of “the greatest generation”/. The National Park Service described the Memorial as a balance of classical and modernist styles of architecture that harmonized natural and cultural surrounds. The War Memorial connects the legacy of the American Revolution and the American Civil was with great crusade to ride to the world of fascism.

The World War II Memorial may be viewed 24 hours a day. Rangers are on duty to answer questions daily from 9:30 am to 11:30 pm.

The Korean War Veterans Memorial

The Korean War Veterans Memorial is an expression of gratitude to the men who helped to restore freedom to South Korea in the face of communist aggression. The Memorial has 19 stainless steel sculptures that stand silently under the watchful eyes of a sea of faces on a granite wall. The Korean arm Veterans Memorial is a reminder of the human cost of defending freedom.

The Korean War Veterans Memorial may be viewed 24 hours a day. Rangers are on duty to answer questions daily from 9:30 am to 11:30 pm.

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial honors the men and women who served and sacrificed during this controversial war. Designer, Maya Lin, felt the ““the politics had eclipsed the veterans, their service and their lives.” She kept the design elegantly simple to “allow everyone to respond and remember.”

Planning a Visit What to Expect of the Weather

Washington DC, in the Mid Atlantic, has temperate climate. There are four distinct seasons.

Spring - mild

Summer – hot and humid

Fall – mild

Winter – cold with freezing precipitation and some snow

The Monuments and War Memorials on the National Mall in Washington D.C. are managed and maintained by the National Park Service.
